Your support helps us to pass along Irish music to future generations in the Milwaukee area.

  • IFSM supports 10 local Irish teaching artists as they mentor and guide over 40 students of all ages.
  • IFSM programming brings respected Irish and Celtic musicians to Milwaukee for unique educational workshops and master classes.
  • IFSM supports community music making through events like our monthly Family Session, an open and family-friendly Irish music session that familiarizes musicians with this important part of the tradition.
  • IFSM creates free online resources and guides through our blog, educating Irish music students and those new to Irish music alike.

Testimonials

"The Irish Fest School of Music classes and workshops I've taken have been lead by caring, nurturing, world-class musical artists, each quite competent within their prospective instruments and talents and offered at affordable prices. So much to learn, even for those who may just want to "explore." It was at the monthly Family Session where I was able to slowly confront my fear of playing an instrument around other people and now the fun just keeps expanding." - Rusty

"I've been taking fiddle lessons with Maria Terres for quite a few years.  I have thoroughly enjoyed learning with her and have made considerable progress, which is a great source of joy for me. I also like participating in the musical sessions hosted by the School of Music, sharing a couple hours with other musicians of all ages and abilities, and enjoying, with them, the magic of the music." - Anne

"I have had  the honor to be involved with the Milwaukee Irish Fest School of Music for years. What a pleasure to attend weekly adult lessons with talented Kaitlin Hahn and her fiddle. Kaitlin is a superb professional - never “missing a beat” with her patience, encouragement, respectfulness and thoughtfulness. I also enjoy monthly Family Sessions that are offered by the School of Music. This fun and relaxed setting is attended by many of the skillful faculty and musicians of all ages~all welcoming and friendly! What a thrill to be able to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities!" - Kathleen

"As an adult student who was interested in learning the whistle, I was a little hesitant. Would I learn interesting traditional music? Or would I learn only the Irish equivalent of "Hot Cross Buns" learned by children in early lessons? I was very excited to work with Jeff in his crafting of lessons. The early tunes were selected as traditional and interesting tunes, but not out of my reach. I continued to learn new tunes, with each one containing a tip or technique. Learning while playing interesting music as an adult - what could be better?" - Bill

"As a long-time Irish whistle student at the Irish School of Music, I find such good energy between my instructor and his students.  Whether I have been in group or private lessons, his energy is contagious while he shares in our practice.  Whatever your ability, my instructor is knowledgeable, authentic and warm making students feel welcome in his class.  I had never held an Irish Whistle when I started and he made me feel comfortable right from the start.  We can laugh at mistakes which I find to be a confidence builder. He helps you to perfect the tune by example and gentle reminder and encouragement to find your style and technique.  I also find the building that the lessons are held in beautiful and comfortable.

I have never felt that mastering the hardest tune is the goal but rather that I enjoy the music and achieve my personal best.  It is because of this that I continue with lessons at the Irish Fest School of Music and I know that whoever joins a class there will find it to be a wonderfully enjoyable experience." - Joan
